My darling Freundin,
Can you believe August surprised us with rain and chilly mornings this year? I had such dreamy plans for warm barefoot days and long evenings under the stars—but instead, I found myself reaching for my socks and lighting candles. Typical German summer mood swing, right?
But maybe, just maybe, this slower, wetter start is a secret gift. A gentle invitation to stay in, slow down, and make our homes extra cozy before the golden days return.
So come in, my dear. Let’s wrap ourselves in soft throws, sip something comforting, and turn our rainy August days into little moments of magic—on a budget, of course.
Cozy Interior Days – When Summer Pauses
These grey August days are perfect for a little home refresh. Nothing big—just the kind of tiny updates that make your space feel like a warm hug.
Start with soft lighting: light a few candles or reuse jam jars as lanterns with tealights inside. Drape fairy lights along your shelf or mirror. Suddenly, rainy doesn’t feel gloomy—it feels cinematic.
Next, I love to mix summer and autumn textures. Layer a linen tablecloth with a chunky cotton runner. Place a bowl of seasonal fruit—peaches, plums, or mirabelles—on the coffee table. Add a few foraged branches or herbs in a vase for that effortless, wild touch. Free, beautiful, and alive.
And for a rainy Sunday afternoon? Make it your Creative Day. Sew simple napkins from leftover fabric, press wildflowers in old books, or try rearranging your living room just for fun. It’s amazing how a new layout can spark new energy.
☕ Rainy Day Entertaining – Intimate & Easy
Invite one or two friends over for a slow, laughter-filled evening at home. Set the table with what you already have—maybe a mix of plates, linen napkins (homemade or not), and a candle in the middle. Here are my three favorite seasonal recipes—simple, delicious, and oh-so-August:

🧀 Appetizer: Zucchini Feta Bites
Ingredients:
- 1 medium zucchini
- 100g feta
- Olive oil
- Fresh thyme
- Salt & pepper
Instructions:
Slice zucchini, grill with olive oil, top with feta and thyme. Serve warm with crusty bread. Bonus: they look like little works of art on a plate.
🍑 Dessert: Honey-Roasted Peaches with Yogurt
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe peaches
- 1 tbsp honey
- Cinnamon
- Greek yogurt
Instructions:
Halve and roast peaches with honey + cinnamon at 180°C for 15 min. Serve warm with cold yogurt. Comfort in every bite.
🍹 Drink: Cucumber-Mint Spritz
Ingredients:
- ½ cucumber, sliced
- Mint leaves
- Sparkling water
- Juice of ½ lime
- Optional: elderflower syrup
Instructions:
Muddle cucumber + mint, add lime and syrup. Top with sparkling water and ice. Light, fragrant, and perfect for toasting rainy afternoons—or sunny returns.
🌤 And When the Sun Returns…
When the sky clears, it’s time to open every window and let fresh air flood your space. In August, our interiors crave a breath of fresh air. This is the perfect moment to declutter your tabletops, switch out heavy throws for light cotton or linen fabrics, and bring in the outdoors—literally.
A few sprigs of lavender, sunflowers in a simple glass jar, or a bowl of peaches on your coffee table can do wonders. Nature does the styling for you.
Feeling crafty? Try making your own lavender sachets to scent drawers or guest rooms—just dried lavender, small cloth squares, and ribbon.
Roll up the rugs, shake out the throws, and maybe move the dinner table out onto the balcony or garden.
Set a late-summer mood with simple touches: a cotton table runner, fresh herbs in little cups, and a pitcher of that cucumber spritz. Make it feel special—because it is.
Evenings are still long, so bring out the candles or string lights, grab a blanket, and soak in those golden August rays. You’ve earned them.
So, meine Liebe, even if this August didn’t start with sunhats and sandals, it still holds beauty, joy, and inspiration—right inside your home. Whether you’re styling with nature, entertaining with heart, or just taking time to breathe and be, this is your invitation to make life beautiful on your own terms.
