My dearest friend,
Here we are, passing the first two-thirds of the year together, learning to live more in the moment and savoring each month with all its richness and splendor. I feel that September always feels like a secret passage between two worlds: the golden afternoons of late summer and the cozy evenings of early autumn. It’s such a beautiful moment to pause, breathe, and gently transform our homes into warm havens that reflect the season’s charm.
I love how little changes can create such a shift in atmosphere. This month, I start by layering: a light wool throw over the sofa, a couple of cushions in warm, muted olive, or light-brown shades that echo the turning leaves. It’s amazing how textiles alone can make a room feel more welcoming.
Do you still have the light, airy curtains from summer at your windows? Why not swap them with heavier natural fabrics—linen blends or cotton with a textured weave—so your home will feel warmer, like in a cocoon.
Another little ritual I adore is creating a seasonal corner in my living room. A basket for cozy blankets, a rustic bowl filled with apples or nuts, and a warm lamp with a soft shade—it immediately sets the mood as soon as you see it. September is also perfect for bringing nature inside: bowls of freshly picked plums, clusters of grapes, or even small pumpkins begin to make their way into the decor, blurring the line between decoration and daily life.
Even on the dining table, I move away from crisp whites and pastels and lean into earthy tones: clay-colored tablecloths, woven placemats, maybe a touch of brass cutlery to catch the glow of candlelight. Candles, by the way, are essential now; not only for evening gatherings but also for those gray, rainy afternoons when their flickering light turns ordinary hours into something magical.
And of course, no September home is complete without flavors that celebrate the harvest. Let me share with you three recipes that bring this season right to the table:

Appetizer – Roasted Beetroot Carpaccio with Goat Cheese & Walnuts
- 3 medium beetroots, roasted and thinly sliced
- 100 g soft goat cheese
- A handful of walnuts, lightly toasted
- Olive oil, balsamic glaze, salt, and pepper
Arrange the beet slices on a platter, crumble goat cheese over them, sprinkle with walnuts, and finish with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic glaze. It’s earthy, colorful, and as vibrant as the season itself.
Dessert – Rustic Plum Galette
- 1 sheet puff pastry (or homemade shortcrust)
- 5–6 ripe plums, sliced
- 2 tbsp sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp ground almonds
Spread the pastry on baking paper, sprinkle the ground almonds in the center, then arrange the plums in circles. Fold the edges of the pastry inward, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, and bake at 190°C for 30–35 minutes until golden. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a simple yet unforgettable treat.
Drink – Sparkling Apple & Rosemary Spritz
- 200 ml fresh apple juice
- 150 ml sparkling water
- 50 ml Prosecco (optional)
- 1 sprig of rosemary
- A slice of apple for garnish
Fill a glass with ice, pour in the apple juice, top with sparkling water and Prosecco, then stir gently with rosemary. The aroma alone feels like September in a glass.
For me, this is what September is all about: layering our spaces with comfort, filling the air with seasonal scents, and gathering around the table with dishes that remind us of abundance and warmth. It’s not about rushing into autumn but about savoring the balance between light and shadow, freshness and coziness, outdoors and indoors.
So tell me, my darling, how are you welcoming September into your home? What little rituals or changes make this season special for you? I’d love to hear from you.
